On September 28, Eagan Pointe Senior Living and the Southview Senior Communities team will be joining the Alzheimer’s Association Minnesota-North Dakota for the 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Target Field. There are 5.8 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s today, and that number is projected to rise to nearly 14 million by 2050. We’d love your help as we work to raise awareness, reduce risk, and eliminate Alzheimer’s through research and care. Learn more about donating and/or registering to walk. Tree Painting, Padelford Tour, Oktoberfest, Oh My!

October 17th, 2018

The residents of Eagan Pointe Senior Living are making the best of this fall season! Take a look at some of the fun fall activities from the past couple weeks.

Some of our Garden Cove residents made fall trees come to life with Q-tip painting. Some had already lost their leaves and were raked into a pile at the bottom. The residents used their creativity to bring a little fall to their rooms.

This was an extraordinary day! The residents of Eagan Pointe Senior Living went on a Padelford tour down the Mississippi River. They were able to learn a little bit about the history, as well as see the beautiful nature surrounding the boat.

The residents of Eagan Pointe celebrated Oktoberfest! They enjoyed German snacks, German polka music, and of course, beer. What Oktoberfest celebration would be complete without a little sauerkraut? Prost!

Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month

June 26th, 2018
Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month

Worldwide, more than 50 million people are living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. During Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness month in June, the Alzheimer’s Association encourages people around the world to learn about and spread awareness. This month, go purple and inspire action.

Alzheimer’s is a disease that attacks the brain. The most common form of dementia, Alzheimer’s is not a normal part of the aging process. The disease affects memory, thought process, and behavior, and is serious enough to interfere with daily life, progressively worsening over time. The sixth leading cause of death in the United States, Alzheimer’s has no cure.

Current Statistics

Learn more about the prevalence and dangers of Alzheimer’s with the “Alzheimer’s Association 2020 Facts and Figures” video.

Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month

The Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association suggests these ways to learn more and get involved during Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month:

  • Spread awareness of the 10 Ways to Love Your Brain – it’s never too early or too late to develop healthy habits, and combining these habits, like regular cardiovascular exercise, a balanced, healthy diet, challenging your mind, and getting enough sleep, can help reduce risk of cognitive decline.
  • Learn and share facts about how Alzheimer’s impacts Minnesotans.
  • Share your story and get inspired by others who also tell of their experiences with the disease.
  • Go Purple – wear the official color of Alzheimer’s awareness and turn your social media profiles purple as well.
  • Participate in The Longest Day event on June 20 in honor of those facing the disease. Select any activity that you love (or one loved by someone affected by Alzheimer’s), raise money to advance the cause, and share your story.
  • Attend or participate in events that raise awareness throughout the month of June.

Art and Performance

June 18th, 2018

In these past few weeks, we have decorated flower pots and watched a wonderful performance!

Decorating Pots

The ladies from Garden Cove 3 worked hard at decorating the pots that they plan on growing some herbs in throughout the summer!

Eagle Scout Performance

Eagan Pointe Senior Living was asked to help a student from Eastview High School achieve his National Eagle Scout Association Award. Henry, a high school sophomore, wanted to bring music to the senior community and chose Eagan Pointe Senior Living. He conducted a small brass ensemble for about 5-6 songs and a composition he wrote himself. The residents were really impressed with his music and leadership skills. Henry is coming back to do small group performances for the Garden Cove residents, too!

Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness-Eagan Pointe Senior Living

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, an opportunity to learn more, take action, and spread awareness of Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disease that causes problems with memory, thought process, and behavior. It is the leading cause of dementia, a general term for loss of memory and other cognitive abilities. Alzheimer’s is not a normal part of aging. People with Alzheimer’s experience issues with memory, communicating, learning, thinking, and reasoning that are severe enough to impact work, social, and family life.

There is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s, although as our insights into the disease continue to develop, there are new treatments on the horizon.

Current Statistics
  • More than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, including 91,000 Minnesotans aged 65 and older.
  • Alzheimer’s is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States.
  • Every 66 seconds, someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s.
  • One-third of people aged 85 or older have Alzheimer’s or another dementia.
  • Approximately 200,000 Americans under the age of 65 have Alzheimer’s disease.
