Fun February Activities at Eagan Pointe Senior Living

March 2nd, 2023

At the end of January, the Eagan Pointe Senior Living community celebrated its Winter Carnival. One of the highlights was crowning our new King & Queen of Eagan Pointe — introducing King Jerry & Queen Marti! 👑👑

Residents also played exciting games like tabletop curling. And, of course, there was the annual Puzzle Race Contest, which is always popular. Caren, our former Queen, won the curling competition. The winning team in the Puzzle Race Contest included Stu, Jewell, Mary Sue, and Mary.

As always, the residents had so much fun at the Eagan Pointe Winter Carnival. Learn more about our lively community at www.eaganpointeseniorliving.com.

Residents at Eagan Pointe Senior Living got big surprise when members of the Saint Paul Vulcans paid a visit to our community.

For decades, the Saint Paul Vulcans organization has done charitable work on behalf of the city of St. Paul. If you’d like to learn more or become a member, visit www.vulcans.org.

We appreciate the Vulcans taking the time to stop by and serve breakfast to our residents!

Eagan Pointe Senior Living residents celebrated Valentine’s Day with a delicious candlelight lunch, with a choice of either lobster or steak.

The lovely atmosphere and extravagant meal made for the perfect Valentine’s Day setting. All of the residents had an amazing time and raved about the meal for days afterward.

Aloha!

At Eagan Pointe Senior Living, we don’t let the chilly winter temps get us down. No, sir! We stirred our imaginations and pretended to be in a tropical setting with our Beat the Winter Blues Happy Hour event.

Residents dressed in fun, loud, and summery Hawaiian-style gear, complete with pretty, vibrant leis. Everyone chatted and laughed while enjoying tasty snacks and tropical drinks.

A Special Anniversary, Arts & Crafts, and More at Eagan Pointe

July 28th, 2022

On June 15, Eagan Pointe Senior Living celebrated its 7th anniversary! Typically, gifts for a copper anniversary are copper (?) and wool, to symbolize warmth. We felt all the love and warmth from residents during this special celebration that included fancy decorations, a delicious barbecue dinner, and a mega ice cream sundae dessert — served in a copper pot. ?

Here’s to the next seven years — and many, many more!

Some of our Eagan Pointe Senior Living residents recently kicked off their Sunday shoes and had a blast attending a performance at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres.

Everybody cut “Footloose” for this amazing song and dance show that had us all dancing in our chairs and singing along to these oh-so-famous songs.

Eagan Pointe Senior Living residents recently had a little happy hour fun.

Louis played his harmonica along to the music and invited Barb and Mary Lou to dance. This trio surely put the “happy” in happy hour during this event!

Garden Cove residents at Eagan Pointe Senior Living prepared for summer flowers with some arts and crafts. We grabbed our brushes, tapped into our creativity, and added color and flair by painting flower pots.

Take a look at some of our residents — Jan M., Julia A., and Tom N. — flexing their artistic muscles.

Our Assisted Living and Independent Living residents at Eagan Pointe Senior Living prepared for the Fourth of July holiday weekend with some arts, crafts, and patriotic spirit. We created and decorated wreaths using clothes pins and red, white, and blue stars. ?⬜?⭐

Look at what these talented ladies made!

Red, white, blue, and YUM!

On July 1, we kicked off the Independence Day weekend with a Patriotic Happy Hour event at Eagan Pointe Senior Living. Residents wore red, white, and blue attire and enjoyed a variety of RW&B cocktails. The drinks we served included a Red Raspberry Martini, a White Summer Berry Punch, and a Blue Hawaiian.

We recently welcomed summer and gussied up our community by planting flowers in Garden Cove at Eagan Pointe Senior Living.

Dorothy, one of our residents, got some help from activity staff member Breanna to transfer some of these beautiful flowers to bigger pots, where they can grow and thrive. ??

Winter Fun at Eagan Pointe Senior Living

March 16th, 2022

From January 28 through February 4, Eagan Pointe Senior Living played host to its Winter Carnival, during which residents took part in an assortment of exciting, winter-themed activities and events. ❄

Nominees for the Coronation Ball court were Ken A., Louis D., Arthur S., Caren L., Deanna K., and Delores K. We crowned King Arthur and Queen Caren. ?

In the Puzzle Race, teams competed to see who would be the first to finish the puzzle. The winning team of Deanna, Jean, Caren, and Ruby finished in just under 15 minutes! ?

During the Snow Sculptor Challenge, residents rolled the dice to try and be the first to build their snowman using “real” snow. Miles was the winner for this challenge. ⛄

We also had a special visitor. Miss South Saint Paul Ambassador Madelyn Wenda dropped by to call Royal Bingo for AL and IL residents as well as all three Garden Coves.

All in all, the Winter Carnival was a hit!

Eagan Pointe Senior Living hosted a candlelight dinner on Valentine’s Day to show our valentines – our residents! – how much we care. Residents ordered lobster or filet mignon for a delicious dinner accompanied by live piano music. ??

Eagan Pointe Senior Living hosted its very own Olympic Games, allowing residents to compete in activities to earn a medal.

In Tabletop Curling, Linda Z., Marti T., and Shirley F. took home the gold! ?

During the Olympic Winter Games Trivia, residents answered questions based on winter sports and the winter Olympics. Linda Z. was the gold medal winner for this event. ?

We had two more events scheduled for later in the week, and all residents who participated had an Olympic-sized time. Our community was the real winner for these games!

Fun and Games at Eagan Pointe

March 16th, 2022

On December 17, we welcomed Elise Bombaro to Eagan Pointe Senior Living. She delivered a special holiday treat by playing classical and Christmas music for us on the piano. We were so grateful to have her share her talents with us.

Tom N. and other residents at Eagan Pointe Senior Living participated in a friendly bean bag toss game. The game helped residents stay active and work on coordination skills while having fun together.

Some Eagan Pointe Senior Living residents got together for arts and crafts.

Helen L. and Ardie B., Mitzi V., and Irene R. were among those who made and decorated gingerbread cards. ??

Eagan Pointe Senior Living residents often play games for entertainment and socialization – and some games help keep cognitive skills fresh, too! ?

Recently some residents – including Phyllis, who is pictured here – played Nix the Six. The game requires six dice and a pen and paper for keeping score. When a player rolls a six, that die is removed. The player keeps rolling until no sixes are shown. The total on the remaining dice is that player’s score for that round.

Eagan Pointe Senior Living hosted a winter social, where residents were randomly assigned tables to get to know more people throughout the building.

They also got to try some fun and delicious winter treats like Gingerbread Oreos, Cherry Cordial Kisses, white chocolate & peppermint popcorn, and a made-to-order hot chocolate bar.

On Dasher. On Dancer. On Prancer and Vixen… ?

Eagan Pointe Senior Living residents enjoyed their own reindeer games when they participated in Reindeer Racing. We captured some of the fun:

  • Charlotte’s reindeer takes the lead.
  • Rolling the dice to advance.
  • Rosemary takes her turn.

Garden Cove residents at Eagan Pointe Senior Living enjoy a weekly Brushstrokes activity, during which they can paint seasonal pictures using watercolor. This week they painted Christmas candle pictures. ??

Some of our residents at Eagan Pointe Senior Living played an Xmas Tree Dice Game.

We snapped a few photos of Linda and Randi during one of the rounds. The object of the game is to roll the dice to cover the ornaments on your tree. The first player to cover all their ornaments is the winner. ??

We snapped a photo of Sister Brigid admiring the poinsettia she received as a gift. She wanted to share its beauty with everyone at Eagan Pointe Senior Living, so we placed it in one of the main spaces for all to see and enjoy.

The fun and games continued with a game of Scoop Toss at Eagan Pointe Senior Living. Residents took turns getting in on the action:

  • Jan and Thelma
  • Mae
  • Irene

Participants engaged in friendly competition while sharing time and laughs together.

Residents at Eagan Pointe Senior Living had a New Year’s Eve celebration that included cocktail weenies, champagne cocktails, socializing, and smiles. Cheers to 2022! ??

Lovely Thank You Note & Summer Fun

September 30th, 2021

The team at Eagan Pointe Senior Living recently received a lovely thank you that touched the hearts of all of us. It’s nice to know our work is valued and appreciated. Thank YOU, Norma, for your kind words. Your note made us all very happy – and proud to do what we do:

To all Eagan Pointe Staff, Nurses, & Health Aides—

I’m writing this letter to thank you and let you know that I appreciate everything you do for us. I know you all have difficult jobs trying to please everyone.

All your hard work is apparent in that we have no had any COVID cases for along time, and still not back in “lockdown.” I am enjoying the outings again.

I missed the Food Meeting, but I wanted to let you know I am so pleased with the addition of whole grain bread & raisin bread (that) has been added to breakfast. Of course, the scones are just wonderful. The fruit and breakfast variety is great.
Sincerely yours,
Norma

While the Summer Olympics in Tokyo may have ended, we continued our own Olympic Games at Eagan Pointe Senior Living and encouraged residents to Go for the Gold. And they did just that!

In our Olympic Trivia Competition (photo 1, from left): Lois K. just passed; Norma H. took home silver; Linda won gold; and Mari Sue and Kitty Y. were both awarded bronze.

Participating in the Equestrian Races (photo 2, from left around the table): Mari Sue, Linda Z., Mary Jo, Norma H., Carol S., Cindy, Charlotte, and Evelyn.

And showing off their medals (photo 3, from left): Carol scored with bronze; Mary Jo went for the gold and won; and Evelyn N. rounded out the tops with silver.

Thank you to everyone who participated, and congratulations to our Eagan Pointe Olympic Games winners! ???

Eagan Pointe residents met up with residents from other Southview communities to attend Circus Juventas. Everyone was excited for our first big group outing since COVID, and the circus was a great place to celebrate.

The residents had a fantastic time and loved the show. Everyone was impressed at the talent displayed by these high schoolers – and amazed that they were doing all the stunts! ?

We recently brought a taste of the Great Minnesota Get-Together right to our Eagan Pointe community. We celebrated the MN State Fair with some devilishly delicious fried foods and a very special State Fair Punch.

We also had a contest in which residents could vote on a picture done by the Wine & Coloring group. Congratulations to our winner, Bonnie J!

At Eagan Pointe Senior Living, we like to get creative and give our residents something fun to work on or create for arts and crafts. For our Fall Craft Project, we made pumpkins from wine corks. Activities like this help improve motor functions, dexterity, and artistry – and they allow residents to get together and have fun in a social setting.

These cork pumpkin crafts helped get us all into the fall spirit! ???

Summer Olympic Games & S’mores

August 4th, 2021

The Summer Olympic Games have come to Eagan Pointe!

We’ve organized 5 “Go for the Gold” activities where community members can engage in a little friendly competition and win a gold, silver, or bronze medal. The 3 events we’ve done so far include:

• Olympic Dice Game: We had a tie for gold with Kitty Y. & Mari Sue H.

• Noodle Ball: Contestants used noodles to hit a balloon back and forth between sides, similar to the rules and style of volleyball. The victors were team 2 (“The Sharks” with members Kitty Y & Mary Jo K.) over team 1 (“The Whales” with members Judie B., Evelyn N., and Carol S.) 2-0.

• Bouncing Basket Ball: Contestants were given ping pong balls of a specific color and attempted to bounce as many into a basket as they could, and the person with the most of their color in the basket after 3 rounds was the winner. Linda Z. won gold, Bette R. silver, and Kitty Y. bronze.

Thank you to all our participants and congratulations to our winners! We still have 2 events left so there’s more to come. Good luck to all competitors in the final two games! ????

We were able to do our first bonfire of the season last month.

What better way to enjoy a lovely summer night than having s’mores around the fire and laughing with friends?

Farewell Celebration, Earth Day Treat, & Kentucky Derby

May 18th, 2021

Eagan Pointe Senior Living residents and staff showed up to a small but significant farewell celebration for one of our dedicated team members.

Jake’s last day was April 30. Everyone wished him luck on his new adventure, and we celebrated with cake and plenty of smiles.

Congratulations, Jake. We will miss you, but we wish you all the best!

For Earth Day, residents at Eagan Pointe Senior Living had a great time playing in the “mud” while creating a tasty and sugary treat.

In our Garden Coves, we made dirt cups using pudding, crushed Oreo cookies, and gummy worm candies. Residents enjoyed mixing the ingredients, with layers of deliciousness for the worms to “crawl” through.

Playing in the mud has never been so entertaining or edible. ?

The renowned Kentucky Derby takes place annually on the first Saturday of May. This year, we decided to “horse around” and get in on the fun with a Kentucky Derby Day at Eagan Pointe Senior Living.

We served mint juleps, the signature drink of the Kentucky Derby, and asked residents to dress for the occasion by wearing a fancy or fun hat.

As you can see, our attire and accessories made for an exciting afternoon.
Activity Director Nichole Stoerzinger (photo 3) got dressed up to serve mint juleps. Kitty J. and Mary Ann W. (photo 2) wore their elegant hats. Joan D. (photo 1) wore a purple shower cap because it matched her outfit. ???

70th Wedding Anniversary Celebration

January 29th, 2021

One of Eagan Pointe’s resident couples, Stuart and Frances U., had their 70th wedding anniversary on January 18!

To help them celebrate such an amazing day, our residents and associates sang “Happy Anniversary” and presented them with a cake to enjoy together. They were also kind enough to share insights into their long, successful, and happy marriage:

Where did you meet?

We’ve known each other since we were children attending different grade schools, but we started dating when Frances became a teacher at the county school in Lennox, South Dakota.

Where did you get married?

St. Magdalen’s Catholic Church in Lennox.

What is your secret for being married 70 years?

Patience, fortitude, and putting the other head of yourself.

They have 4 children, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-granddaughters with a 5th on the way. Please join us in congratulating and wishing a very happy anniversary to Frances and Stuart! ❤??

Stuart and Frances U. had their 70th wedding anniversary on January 18.

After celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary, Eagan Pointe couple Stuart and Frances U. sent a lovely thank you note to our Residence Director, Renee:

“Thank you for honoring us on our 70th anniversary. It was a highlight of our day, since we couldn’t have a party or celebrate with our families and friends due to the pandemic.

I remember what you said, Renee, when we moved into our apartment 5-1/2 years ago: ‘Now this is your new home at Eagan Pointe, and the people living here will be like a new family.’
How true this has turned out to be!

We thank you and the staff for taking time off from their work, taking pictures, singing an anniversary song, and for the delicious cake we shared with some of our neighbors.

The pictures are very nice, and our family is already appreciating them.
Our thanks and appreciation to everyone.” -Fran and Stu

We are so happy to hear you enjoyed the celebration, Frances and Stuart! We’re so lucky to have such amazing people in our close-knit, supportive community, and we loved the opportunity to honor celebrate you both on such an incredible day.

Mrs. Claus Visit & New Year’s Eve Happy Hour Cart

January 22nd, 2021

Santa had his hands full last month, but we were lucky to have Mrs. Claus stop by to visit and share gifts! In fact, she was kind enough to come by twice to ensure her Christmas cheer reached everyone at Eagan Pointe Senior Living. She visited with and delivered goodies to our Independent and Assisted Living residents one day and then came back to do the same with those members of our Garden Cove units. Thank you, Mrs. Claus! ?

Santa had his hands full last month, but we were lucky to have Mrs. Claus stop by to visit and share gifts!

While we couldn’t have a big gathering like previous years, we still had some fun to welcome in 2021 here at Eagan Pointe! We brought a New Year’s Eve happy hour cart around to each unit and served olives, cheese, crackers, and, of course, champagne. Members from our Garden Cove apartments also made New Year’s Eve party hats to show off during their sparkling cider toast that evening. We hope you all had a safe and very happy New Year! ??
